Uptake of tickets for RnB star, John Legend’s “All of Me Tour” taking place in Harare in November, has been slow with fans failing to use the reserved ticketing system and to raise the required funds. The Green Light hit-maker, who is popular for his romantic ballads, is billed to perform in Zimbabwe for the first time at the Rainbow Towers Hotel on November 16 after two shows in South Africa. An evening with John Legend: The All of me tour has sold out in over 60 cities in the United States of America.
Organisers of the event – Davies Events – who opted for the online reservations in a bid to ensure that fans from outside Harare have access to the show, said people who had made reservations had not followed up on their reserved tickets.
One of the organisers of the American singer’s tour, Gabriel Ettlin, said a substantial number of reserved tickets had not been redeemed.
“Collection for all of the online reservations made thus far was scheduled for July 11 and 12, but the promoters have reported that a substantial number of these reservations which were made were not redeemed,” he said.
Considering that the reservation platform was a first for Zimbabweans, the promoters decided to afford all holders of reservations an additional grace period which ends today.
A post on the Davies events Facebook page on July 14 read: “ . . . Given that this reservation platform is a first for concerts in Zimbabwe, the promoters have decided to afford all holders of reservations an additional grace period of a week to redeem their reservations.
“People have been afforded the extended opportunity to collect and pay for their tickets next weekend being Friday, 18th and Saturday 19th of July.
“Any reservations not redeemed after this extended period will certainly expire, with the tickets being made available for purchase at the box office.”
However, the cheaper tickets of $30, $50 and $75 have either been sold out or are reserved. The remaining available tickets through the box office which is open today in Harare at Sam Levy’s Village have been pegged at $100 and $125. They are also available through online reservations for those outside Harare.
Ettlin said all reservations would expire after a given date and the physical tickets would be returned to the box office for public sale.
Meanwhile, the Love in the future singer has since included his Harare show on his official tour website. The performance that is part of the “All of Me Tour” will also see the RnB star performing in South Africa. – Harare Bureau/Showbiz Reporter
