‘Legless’ beggar fools Joburg locals

Johannesburg — A “legless beggar” in Johannesburg has caused a stir on social media sites, after it emerged that he does in fact have legs.
The man was recently filmed by a security guard who was patrolling the area, collecting his personal belongings, standing up and walking away, Eyewitness News reported yesterday.

Motorists had often seen the beggar squatting on a piece of cardboard on the road, not knowing his legs were tucked inside his shirt.

The security guard told community news website looklocal: “He is not crippled at all and I always knew this. I spoke to him on Sunday and he pretended to be crippled, but I ordered him to stand up and go.”

Johannesburg locals have taken to Twitter to complain about how the man duped them.

“Speechless! I see this guy all the time,” tweeted 5fm DJ, Nicole da Silva.

“Shocked by the news that the legless beggar often spotted on Glenhove Road has fooled me all along.” Spillly tweeted. — News24
