The election process for District Coordinating Committees (DCCs), which is underway across the country took long because of the need to eradicate malcontents that wanted to infiltrate the party, Zanu PF secretary for Administration Dr Obert Mpofu has said.
Zanu PF is presently conducting DCC elections in the remaining eight provinces after completing the process in Harare and Bulawayo metropolitan provinces.
The reintroduction of District Coordinating Committees is expected to further consolidate party structures at grassroots level.
DCCs were disbanded in 2012 after the party’s leadership felt they were being used to foment divisions in the party.
There are people in some districts who are understood to be trying to manipulate the process in favour of their preferred candidates.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Dr Mpofu commended the party leadership for a sterling job across all constituencies as a run up to the DCC elections.
“Since your participation, we have witnessed quite huge strides of progress, though we still take note of rogue party cadres who are fanning violence and using unorthodox means in a bid to influence DCC election outcomes,” said Dr Mpofu.
There are reports of G40 renegades in some provinces who are trying to influence the DCC elections outcome.
In the last Politburo Ordinary Session, Dr Mpofu said the vetted lists were submitted by the national political commissar, but there were further removals or additions of some members.
“I urge you to remain steadfast and resilient to ensure that the elections are free, just and fair,” he said. “The elections should be a platform to eradicate all malcontents, who might want to infiltrate our revolutionary party.”
In some provinces, some prospective candidates contesting for DCC positions had already been notified.
Zanu PF First Secretary, President Mnangagwa, has warned senior officials against breaching party rules and regulations when conducting DCC elections.
President Mnangagwa condemned the imposition of candidates, urging the electorate to choose their preferred representatives.
