“I think we will have more than 50 amateurs and about 20 professionals in the field. For professionals, we have put in US$3 000 and the event is likely to become an annual event and we will continue to support golf,” Rocher said.
Ben Follet-Smith, fresh from winning the Harare Open, remains the one to beat in the amateur ranks.
“I think I will do well and I am looking forward to the event,” Follet-Smith said.
“There is a lot of competition but I am prepared for the challenge and maintain my position on the order of merit,” he said.
Zimbabwe’s only representative in the 102nd edition of the South Africa Open, Ryan Cairns, started well after he carded a two-under-par in the first round.
Cairns is trailing the leader by six strokes.
