LESOTHO is looking to tap into Geo Pomona Waste Management’s expertise, Principal Secretary for Lesotho’s Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, Ms Nthoateng Lebona, said yesterday.

In an interview after touring the Geo Pomona Waste Management facility in Harare, Ms Lebona said the facelift of the former dumpsite had been an inspiration to Lesotho.

Her motherland, she said, would definitely learn from Geo Pomona.

“We were here last August but I never got to see Geo Pomona so I thought this time I should come and see the developments that have been made here, transforming what was called the dump site into a very environment-friendly infrastructure like the grounds that we are standing here on,” Ms Lebona  said.

“We have come to learn how they reached this stage, so that we can take those lessons home, because we are facing similar situations.

“So we are hoping that as we industrialise, as the urban population grows, we are able to manage waste better, and get the benefit of energy production as well”.

The intent registered by Lesotho is yet another positive spin-off from Zimbabwe’s successful hosting of the 44th SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government in August, which saw leaders from the regional bloc visiting different game-changing projects in the country including the Geo Pomona Waste Management facility in Harare.

Lesotho joins Madagascar and Botswana, who have already expressed willingness to learn from the waste management firm.
