his is a divine task that no man can put asunder.
We should never forget that for 55 of the 89 years, Cde Mugabe has been in the trenches slaving so that you and me could live a life of dignity.
Cde Mugabe laid a firm foundation of holistic democracy, unequalled reconciliation, education, health, land reform and total independence that over a decade of ruinous sanctions has dented, but failed to erase.
Therefore whether we are in Zanu-PF, MDC-T, MDC or Mavambo, or any of the fringe parties that sprout at election time, lets collectively salute and learn from this man’s legacy, a legacy of selfless service to the nation.
It is fortuitous that the President’s birthday comes at a time we are celebrating the conclusion of the Constitution-making process spearheaded by an inclusive Government that brought together the country’s three parliamentary parties.
This Government is as much a collective achievement as President Mugabe’s personal tribute.
His legacy of nation building is why today, almost 33 years after our first Cabinet, we celebrate the spirit of inclusion.
The inclusive Cabinet is a throwback to the first Cabinet of 1980 that brought together ministers drawn from Zanu-PF, PF Zapu and the Republican Front.
As such, Cde Mugabe embodies what we should all aspire to be; patriots who put country before self.
To this end, we take this opportunity to urge all parties to the inclusive Government to remain steadfast by speaking the language of Team Zimbabwe as we head for the referendum and elections. There are many who would rather see us at each other’s throats for their selfish reasons, lets put them to shame by upholding the commitments we made to the people.
And that includes even those outside Government, the private sector and civil society, and even those among us who have been making a living by trashing Zimbabwe, let’s rededicate ourselves to making a living by building Zimbabwe. If we could give just a tenth of what Cde Mugabe has given this country, we will be up there with the most advanced countries in the world.
Once again long-live Cde President, the nation is richer for your wise counsel.
