Let’s vote in peace: President

the 33rd Independence Day anniversary celebrations yesterday, the President urged rival political party supporters to co-exist.
He said he receives weekly briefings of the socio-political environment from Police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri every Monday and has instructed the police to decisively deal with perpetrators of violence.

“Iyezvino mapurisa anotipa mareports. Musi weMuvhuro woga woga vanenge vachiuya VaChihuri vachiti kune kurwisana mumastreets . . . aah hatidi kukuona wakapfeka uniform yeparty yako. “Naizvozvo ndati kumapurisa vanenge vachidaro bambalo, fakalo mujeri. Aiwa zvinotinyadzisa,’’ the President said.

The Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, also called on the political leadership at all levels to preach and live peace.
“Vatungamiri inzwai ndavakutaura neShona. Vatungamiri vezvikwata zvedu kana ndichireva vatungamiri, handisi kureva vekumusorosoro chete. Ndiri kureva kana vatungamiri nevekumaprovince nemadistricts nevekumabranches emaparty. Tinoda runyararo. Vanhu vaende kunovhota murunyararo.”

One of the main political parties in Government, MDC-T, has been rocked by intra-party violence ahead of its primary elections slated for Saturday. Zanu-PF is yet to announce primary election dates, let alone the criteria for the primaries. MDC-T’s organising secretary in Gweru was recently arrested for assaulting a supporter while police had launched a manhunt for a senior party official who assaulted its district youth secretary for information and publicity.

Last month, MDC-T policy and research co-ordinator Mr Fortune Gwaze was assaulted at the party headquarters by rogue youths who accused him of being a Zanu-PF spy.
A group of MDC-T youths accosted a Murehwa District official after accusing him of pulling down their party posters.

Other cases of violence were recorded in Zaka, while 10 MDC-T supporters recently appeared before a Zvishavane magistrates’ court facing charges of violence, which left several people seriously injured.

Over the same period, 13 Zanu-PF supporters were arrested in Hurungwe West after allegedly assaulting Hurungwe East legislator Cde Sarah Mahoka in an incident that sucked in businessman and aspiring Hurungwe West candidate Cde Temba Mliswa.

“Tozobva ipapo toenda kumakwikwi eparty iyi neiyi. Kana zvichinzi vanhu vemuZimbabwe vane makore makumi matatu nematatu eindependence . . . ngatipe rukudzo kune ivavo vakairwira, vakaifira.
