Let’s worship Elijah’s God

by the prophets of Baal. Elijah was sick and tired of Baalism that came to control and manipulate the worship of Jehovah God in Israel.
Baal was a strange god whom Jezebel had introduced in Israel through her marriage to Ahab the king of Israel. Baalism brought confusion in relation to which God should be worshipped.
Drought struck Israel for three and half years, no rain, no dew of heaven fell upon the land.
Jehovah could be seen angry because of this idol worshipping. He had forewarned His people that He is a jealous God who does not want to be challenged or to be equalled to something He created by His hands.
Elijah the prophet whose ministry is characterised by fire, challenged Baalism by asking all the people of the land to gather at the mountain for a showdown to see whose God can answer by fire, and if that God is found, that God must be worshipped by all the people of the land.
Elijah gave the prophets of Baal the first opportunity to show off their powers. They erected their alter and called upon the name of their gods to show up.
No voice, no sound, no response could be heard until they were very much tired of their ministration. There were 450 prophets of Baal against one prophet of God, Elijah. They were the most vocal in the land, writing in the newspapers, getting much airtime in the television stations of those days since they were connected to Jezebel who was controlling all the activities of the land.
They were trying to preach against the prophet of God, drawing God’s people back into idolatry, preaching against Elijah in their churches was the gospel of their time until Jehovah got angry and struck the whole land with hunger. God said enough is enough, I have to teach these people that rejecting my prophet is rejecting God Himself.
Israel tried to do irrigation, but the Lord caused even the water tables to go down beyond any electric water pump’s reach.
Men could not perceive that the drought that hit the land was caused by their disobedience. God owns the rains, if He is provoked, He simply withdraws the services. Jehovah God is the administrator of the rainfall and the CEO of the department and His prophets are the overseers of His ways.
It took the whole day for the prophets of Baal, vain efforts were put up, they tried to prophesy, they cut themselves thinking that maybe their own blood could work out things.
Elijah thought their god had gone for a holiday. Religious people do all sort of things trying to get the attention of the gods, but it always costs them even their lives or their children’s.
Deception does not pay.
Nomatter how many people are supporting sin, God will never regard it.
When the evening came, Prophet Elijah put up his alter as per his God’s instruction.
He also put a seed of water upon the alter. Elijah was a man of principles, he understood the principle of sowing and reaping.
He put a seed of water in order to see a harvest of rains, which the prophets of Baal could not understand.
In their churches they preach against the gospel of Elijah, they called their gospel anti-prosperity gospel.
They talk about money, good health, living like kings here on earth, they say all this is waiting for people in heaven.
They promise their members miserable and horrible lifestyles here on earth and they promise abundance in heaven, yet their God even delivered their forefathers from the Egyptian yoke that they may go to Canaan to enjoy milk and honey — that is good living.
Their gospel is that all the good things here on earth are for the devil and his children and yet their God had created all these for them.
Elijah said enough is enough. After having erected the alter according to the Spirit of the Lord’s instruction, the prophet prayed to his God, the CEO of the universe.
In his words Elijah called upon the God of his fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and asked Him to re-introduce him to the people by fire.
Immediately after his prayer fire fell upon the ground and consumed the sacrifice upon his alter and all the people of the land celebrated in prayer saying, The Lord, He is the God, the Lord He is the God (1 Kings 18:39).
Elijah ordered the unrepented prophets of Baal to be killed.
When two different powers meet, the lesser power should always bow down.
The God that answers by fire is God. Nomatter how difficult your situation might be, the God of Elijah is ready to answer you by fire if you call upon His name for solutions today.
You alone and God you are a majority. Time has come for all the people of the world to exalt the God of our Lord Jesus Christ high.
He is the only God to be worshipped.
