Letters to the Editor: Why are so many weapons floating around?

The number of armed robberies in the country have been rising at an alarming rate of late. It seems these robberies are becoming more sophisticated by the day.

In order to cope with this nonsense, security services also need to adapt by adopting new ways of dealing with this scourge.

We have had reports of armed robbers pouncing on people’s homes and making off with large sums of cash and other valuables. Just recently, armed robbers pounced on forex dealers at Makoni Shopping Centre in broad daylight.

Back in the day, we used to brag that Zimbabwe was one of the safest countries in the region since we never really had these many armed robberies, but these days they are becoming rampant.

Is it that our security services are now sleeping on the job or that local criminals are just evolving?

Where are these people getting these guns?

Why do we have so many weapons floating around? Security services really need to step up to the plate.

 Concerned Citizen.
