Letters to the Editor: ZRP must stick to its promises

Lawrence Chinene “Man of justice” Ndhlovu, Lwendulu, Hwange

THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) should give a recap and full definition of the maximum level of service that the public should expect from the police.

One day at Lwendulu old ground I attended a Service Charter which kicked off with a long procession march with campaign banners from the host police station to the venue with the participants issuing pamphlets and fliers with crime and road traffic accident prevention tips inscribed on them to both motorists and public en route to the main arena.

The ZRP said by re-invigorating the Service Charter, they were reaffirming their commitment to the values and standards, and promise to focus their energies and resources towards the community.

Remember fighting crime is a shared responsibility between the ZRP as an organisation and the public.

Communities were advised to continue working hand-in-glove with police but to our surprise the police turn a deaf ear to the Gebhuza road matter. Heavy trucks are causing havoc along the Gebhuza road day and night by speeding, noise and dust. Residents are having sleepless nights. Prohibition warning signs of “No heavy trucks” were installed on both ends of the road as well as for the removal of a Truck-Inn at “P-section”. These are serious hazards to the residents.

Residents are concerned at the lack of or delayed police on this matter. This is breaking the law and disturbing human life and there is nothing to justify what the drivers are doing by breaking the law.

The question is, are there any hidden agendas behind these trucks, but law is law. Let’s stop corruption, no one is above the law. We were all created in the same entity of God.

The matter was reported at the Hwange ZRP Traffic and Safety Control Department and the Hwange Colliery Company Limited (HCCL) Risk and Control Department only to be told that further investigations into the matter are underway. Police seemed to be dragging their feet on the matter. This matter is never taken seriously despite the fact that fatal accidents have occurred in this road.

The law should be respected by both the rich, the poor, the disabled and the able-bodied.

Anyway, we will just wait for an accident to occur so that you will be serious over the matter.
