The late liberation war hero, Cde Isheunesu Mazorodze, who died last week, was a man of good judgment and integrity in his post-war career as a customs officer.
This was said by Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa during Cde Mazorodze’s burial in Chakari on Friday.
She said he raised the country’s flag high on the world stage through his work.
“He was the best customs officer and he was the best customs commissioner,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.
“He shined in Brussels and the South Africans heard there was a Zimbabwean who is so good at his work and they came and got him.
“While in South Africa, those in Swaziland also heard about him and they took him and made him a commissioner.”
Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Mashonaland West Mary Mliswa-Chikoka chronicled Cde Mazorodze’s career after the war.
“After the war, Cde Mazorodze’s first camp was at Arcturus in Zimbabwe, from Arcturus, along with other comrades, they went and stayed in Zengeza 5 where they were given houses by the Government,” she said.
“He then joined Zimra as a customs officer in 1980 at Harare Customs Centre. Cde Mazorodze was then moved to Kariba Port in 1982 as a customs officer and later transferred to Victoria Falls.”
