Liberation war hero Chimhundu buried

Liberation war hero Captain Tedius Chimhundu, who died at a city hospital on Monday, was yesterday buried at the Harare Provincial Heroes Acre.
Cde Chimhundu, who was a Zimbabwe National Army captain, left behind his wife and five children.
He died at West End Hospital after sustaining serious injuries in an accident along the Bindura-Matepatepa Road on August 27.
Speaking at the burial, Minister of State for Harare Provincial Affairs Cde Miriam Chikukwa described Captain Chimhundu, whose Chimurenga name was Cde Advance Padzarira, as a dedicated and patriotic cadre who led an exemplary life.

“In his capacity as a member of the Presidential Guard, Tedius exhibited a high degree of unwavering loyalty, dedication to duty, team work and above all patriotism to his country,” she said.

“His conduct was always exemplary and helped a great deal in inculcating the revolutionary spirit in the young soldiers who required political orientation. He was a dedicated cadre who stood resolutely to end white minority rule of the settler regime.”

Cde Chimhundu was born on June 5, 1963 in Bikita to a family of 11.
He did his primary education at Chimhundu Primary School but did not go further with education due to political disturbances that led him to cross the border and join the liberation struggle in 1978. He underwent training at Samakweza base in Inhaminga in Mozambique.

Cde Chimhundu was attested into the Zimbabwe National Army on August 27, 1981 at Llewellin Barracks outside Bulawayo where he underwent regular training.
He was posted to 19 infantry battalion then based at Ntabazinduna Barracks.

In February 1982, he was posted to the Presidential Guard battalion where he served until his death.
He did 12 career progression courses with ZNA and was also conferred with six medals.

Cde Chimhundu rose through ranks to the rank of captain, a rank he held until his death.
