Liberation war hero Dr Singo buried

BEITBRIDGE Town secretary and renowned academic and businessman Dr Sipho Singo who died last week aged 56 has been laid to rest.
Hundreds of mourners from different parts of the country witnessed Dr Singo’s burial on Saturday at his Mazunga Farm, 60km west of Beitbridge town.

Speaker after speaker described the late liberation war hero as a true son of the soil, a principled and dedicated leader. Dr Singo succumbed to heart failure at Polokwane General Hospital in South Africa.

Among those who attended the funeral were Chief David Mbedzi Stauze of Beitbridge, Home Affairs Minister and Beitbridge East MP Cde Kembo Mohadi, Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Egypt Dr Aaron Maboyi Ncube, Beitbridge Senator Tambudzani Mohadi, Beitbridge West MP Metrine Mudau, prominent lawyer Sam Mulaudzi, Plumtree Town secretary Davies Luthe, army officers and Albert Nguluvhe, a senior civil servant in the President’s Office.

Cde Mohadi said Dr Singo will be greatly missed.
“We have lost one of the best brains who had the foresight to transform Beitbridge Town into one of the best investment destinations in the country,” he said.

“He was a principled man who always carried out his duties professionally and we want to assure the nation and the community of Beitbridge that we will continue from where he left in terms of implementing developmental projects.”
Ambassador Maboyi Ncube said the nation had lost a hard worker.

Cde Mudau said Dr Singo was a man of the people. “He managed to achieve most of his set targets because of education and I therefore call on parents here to send their children to school so that we will be able to produce more development agents like the late Dr Singo.”

Dr Singo joined the liberation struggle in the 1970s and was trained in Zambia before being posted to Ethiopia and Russia. He was born on March 28, 1958 in Gwanda in a family of 10.

He is survived by his wife Agnes and daughter Tendani aged five.
