Liberty Ticharwa eyes gospel crown

following the release of his two albums, “Maimbiro Edenga” and “Ndarota”, that are currently receiving heavy rotation on radio.

“Ndarota”, which is the latest offering from the youthful musician, has a complimentary DVD that was released two weeks ago and is doing well.

Ticharwa (26), who is set to embark on a national tour to promote his album and DVD “Libertie Live”, said there was more to his music than the listener hears.

“The idea behind my music is to preach the word of God. At the same time I chose to preach the spoken word through dance and music because even the Bible says that people should find happiness in the house of the Lord.

“So many gospel artistes are now overwhelmed by the publicity they are currently receiving and they are now releasing gospel music for the fun of it, forgetting the core business which is preaching the word of God,” said Ticharwa.

The budding artiste is busy writing his own piece of history. His performance at the just ended Charity Gala earned him accolades when he rocked the dance floor with his “Chana Chatete” dance.

He is a real star in the making as a youthful musician and his band called “The Dream Team” has big plans for its music fans, with the release of the group’s third album before year end, being one of its immediate projects.

Ticharwa and his Dream Team are currently in the studio working on their third album which he said was going to feature veteran gospel musician Baba Machanic Manyeruke, who is regarded as the grand- father of gospel music.

He bemoaned lack of promotional shows, saying this was delaying his breakthrough. “I will use my knowledge and gift to make things flow. Ndakaroteswa kuti ndichakunda (I had a dream that I will succeed),” added Ticharwa.

He was born and bred in Gweru before relocating to Harare, where he continued with his music career. He is also an undergraduate student with Bindura University of Science Education where he is studying Financial Intelligence.
