Life goes on for Caps United

CAPS UNITED will today unveil a new kit as they seek to get on with life, following the collapse of their marriage to Zing, with a tricky tie against FC Platinum at the National Sports Stadium.

Makepekepe officials yesterday disclosed that they will don a Joma branded kit while talks with the Spanish based apparel manufacturer continue.

“Yes we will wear Joma against FC Platinum but that is all I can say about that issue at the moment as there are some issues that still need to be tied up.

“When all that is done we will make a formal statement,” said club chief executive Joe Makuvire.

Caps United won their season opening match away to Whawha last weekend but confirmation by their principal sponsor, Zing, that they had terminated the season long deal that had aroused belief and excitement in their camp has dampened moral among their fans.

On the other hand Norman Mapeza’s expensively assembled FC Platinum, smarting from a pedigree questioning 5-1 drubbing in the CAF Confederation Cup by Tanzania’s Young Africans, were restricted to a share of spoils by debutants Dongo Sawmill at home in a match they were largely expected to win. Both teams are under pressure.

United coach, Mark Harrison, last week assured fans that he is not following Zing through the exit door saying the prospects of a dry purse hovering the Green Machine camp is the least of his worries.

However, Young Warriors left-back Ronald Pfumbidzai, has asked the Footballers Union of Zimbabwe (FUZ) to help him out of Caps United.

Pfumbidzai, who sought a move away from Makepekepe in the off-season before having a change of heart following the arrival of Zing, believes Makepekepe’s days of failing to pay salaries are just around the corner.

Harrison has been trying to talk sense into the left-back but it appears Pfumbidzai is set on moving away from the Green Machine.

“I do not know who is advising him and I do not know who is talking to him. He is a young man and has a big future maybe if he can conducts himself properly.

“He needs to think properly before he says things and react. I spoke to him this morning (Thursday) and told him I never stand in a player’s way if he wants to better himself,” Harrison said.

Caps have sad memories of clashing against FC Platinum but Mapeza says past matches are history as they face a whole new opponent this afternoon.

“Caps United have a new set-up. They have new players and there is a new coach,” he said.

Today’s Fixtures

Dongo Sawmill v How Mine (Vengere), Caps United v FC Platinum (NSS), Tsholotsho v Highlanders (Barbourfields), Hwange v ZPC Kariba (Colliery).
