Lightning kills 2 in Chipinge

A 27-YEAR-OLD woman and a girl (13) from Dambamuromo Village under Chief Musikavanhu were struck and killed by a lightning bolt while standing in a banana pack shade over the weekend.

A third person survived with minor injuries and managed to inform other villagers about the incident.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa, said the tragedy occurred at around 5pm when Yolanda Mutezo (27) and the 13-year-old girl, both of Damabamuromo Village went to fetch firewood along Save River when it started raining.

“While in the process, there was a heavy thunderstorm. They decided to seek for shelter under a Matanuska banana pack shade where Cames Mlambo (71) and Ndaapo Mambodo (73) were also standing,” he said.
