Lightning strikes Byo couple

A COWDRY Park man and his girlfriend were struck by lightning on Tuesday while taking a walk, police have said.

Peter Gwaza, 42, was killed on the spot, while his girlfriend, Priority Dube, 30, sustained extreme burns.

In a statement, national police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said:

“The ZRP reports a sad incident in which Peter Gwaza (42) and his girlfriend Priority Dube (30) were struck by a bolt of lightning on January 3 while walking along a footpath in Cowdray Park.

“Peter Gwaza died on the spot, while Priority Dube sustained burns on the stomach and bruises on her hands and face.”

Meanwhile, a toddler aged one year and eight months succumbed to head injuries on Wednesday after accidentally falling while other children were swinging her.

The victim died on the spot and the body was taken to a local hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.

Investigations are underway.
