Ligue 1 continues to provide options for Kadewere

AS the speculation around the future of Zimbabwean striker Tino Kadewere  continues to swirl in the French media, Ligue 1 football side Brest have emerged as a possible destination for the 26-year-old striker in the coming season.

Kadewere has been subject to intense media scrutiny following a series of injuries and the subsequent loss of form in only his second season at French Ligue 1 giants, Olympique Lyon.

The 26-year-old is still contracted to Lyon until 2024.

However, the French media has reported that Brest have shown interest in securing the Zimbabwean’s services on a loan deal.

Kadewere had an indifferent season after failing to replicate the scoring abilities he demonstrated when he arrived at the club in 2020 and scored 10 goals in 33 appearances.

He played fewer games last season and was a pale shadow of the forward that had won the Golden Boot in Ligue 2, with 20 goals from 24 matches, before moving to Lyon when he also enjoyed the game after forming a formidable forward partnership with Memphis Depay and Cameroonian Karl Toko-Ekambi.

His loss of form was made more visible by the fact that Lyon also struggled last season and missed a European spot after finishing a distant eighth in the race.

Kadewere, who had fallen down the pecking order under new manager Peter Bosz, scored only one goal in the just-ended campaign.

The arrival of Frenchman Alexandre Lacazette, who has decided against renewing his contract with Arsenal at the end of June, has also made Kadewere’s situation difficult.

According to the French media, Brest could offer him the opportunity to relaunch his career, with less pressure.

Kadewere is currently on holiday with his family and has travelled to South Africa and Dubai to cool off. His future will be decided soon after a meeting between his management team, including France-based agent Jihed Taniche, and the club.

In the meantime, the Warriors striker is taking time off football to recharge his batteries during the off-season break.

Kadewere has also been linked with a number of French topflight clubs that include Marshall Munetsi’s Stade de Reims, Troys, Lorient and Rennes.

However, his brother Prosper Kadewere recently told The Herald that the forward’s future hinges on the meeting between his management team and the club.

“The boy still has a contract with Lyon, and as a professional, we still respect that although there are few clubs showing interest.

“Myself and Jihed will have a meeting with the club and see what’s best for both of us,” said Prosper Kadewere.
