MATHIAS Mhere has once again demonstrated his enduring influence, with his music continuing to make a timeless impact across generations.
Mhere, who launched his latest album, ‘The Covenant’, before a packed East End Hall at the Harare Showgrounds on Saturday, proved that he is no longer just a musician, but a powerful voice whose message transcends time.
The 10-track album marks his evolution from a contemporary gospel singer into an institutional powerhouse within the genre.
Featuring a star-studded line-up that includes Janet Manyowa on ‘Nhume’, Canaan Nyathi on ‘Mhuvepo’, Takesure Zamar on ‘Ndiperekedzewo Kudombo’, and Bishop Matende on ‘Bvunza Mweya’, the album carries a spiritual depth that further cements Mhere’s place among gospel music’s most celebrated figures.
Mhere, who also celebrated his birthday during the launch, said the project was inspired by the Holy Spirit.
“This is one of my best projects. It was a historic occasion as we launched the album and recorded a live DVD in front of a wonderful crowd.
“We did not just gather our fans for an album launch.
“We have been working hard behind the scenes, and this event gave them an opportunity to witness the growth of an artist who continues to evolve. “The atmosphere was electric and I cannot wait to share the results once the editing of the live recording is complete.
“Thank you to everyone who came through. Komborerwai naShe,” said Mhere.
The ‘Favour’ hitmaker described the new project as a significant personal milestone.
“This is a major comeback statement for us as we reflect on the journey I have travelled as a recording artist,” he said.
Other songs on the album include ‘Advantage’, ‘Ndibvumbamireiwo’, ‘Taura Tinzwe Mweya’, ‘Makandinongedza’, ‘Muchandivengesa’, and ‘Pachigaro’.
The launch was also graced by performances from Everton Mlalazi, Canaan Nyathi, Sipho Snowy, and the renowned ensemble Joyful Praise Choir.
The launch also attracted a number of public figures including evangelist Eriya Chibvongo, Manica Diamonds secretary-general Taurayi Kandishaya and Gogo Chihoro, among others.
