This year’s Lion Lager Summer Beer Festival set for Glamis Arena on Saturday is ready to roar following the recent announcement of the line-up of local and international performers.
Delta Beverages, organisers of the festival recently confirmed that Jamaican dancehall artiste Garfield Spence, popularly known as Konshens will be the headline act at the event together with South African house outfit Uhuru.

While there has been scepticism in the entertainment industry that some local promoters are bringing in international artistes that fail to perform well, analysts believe Delta Beverages have done their homework.

Popular Zimdancehall MC Godfatha Templeman said the choice to bring Konshens was on point.
“Konshens is popular with the local fans and this moment he is relevant on the international dancehall scene. Besides his multiple hit songs, he is amongst the artistes that popularised dancehall moves that are known locally as ‘clarks’,” he said. The MC said although the 28-year-old artiste makes his appearance at the festival after greats like Beanie Man graced the event previously, chances of him failing to rise to the occasion were slim

“Beanie Man has more than 40 hits, Cocoa Tea more than 20 hits, Konshens is not yet that big but he is able to hold the crowd for over an hour. It is highly unlikely that he will be a victim of cans and bottles. On that note, it is also commendable how the organisers have taken measures to avoid missile throwing on stage,” he said.

Another music analyst hailed Delta Beverages for bringing some artistes to perform in the country for the first time.
“We have seen many artistes coming here for the first time courtesy of Delta and we will be able to see Konshens on stage for the first time at this festival. It is a positive development for the music industry because the artiste is currently popular,” said the analyst.

Konshens’ musical career started in early 2005 while in the duo Sojah with his older brother Delus.
Popular songs from the artiste include “Do Somn”, “Gal a Bubble”, “Represent”, “Realest Song” and “Gal Dem a Talk”.

On the other hand, South Africa’s Uhuru are likely to thrill as their single “Y tjukutja” has been on all most pylists in local clubbing scene.
The outfit that hails from Pretoria is made up of Themba “Maphorisa” Sekowe, Nqobile “Mapiano” Mahlanu, Sihle “DJ Clap” Dlalisisa and Xelimpilo “Xeli” Simelan. The group has generated hits also from remixes for the likes of DJ Zinhle, Dr Malinga, L’vovo, Professor, Mafikizolo (Khona), Davido (Skelewu). Maphorisa and DJ Clap are known as the DJs and producers. Mapiano is a pianist whilst Xeli is the vocalist.

The local list of performers at the Lion Lager Beer Festival includes Jah Prayzah, Winky D, Tocky Vibes, Soul Jah Love and Shinsoman.
