MBIRA player, Florence “Lioness/Shumbakadzi” Nyamazana, says female artists need to work harder to be recognised in showbiz.
The Norton-based mbira player said there were too many hurdles in the path of female artists.
“As female artists we always try our best but we have limitations because we are never taken seriously in some circles.
“However, this will not deter me because music is my calling which I cannot give up.
“It’s a special calling which I have to fulfil to be at the top like most of the artists.
“We will keep on reinventing the wheel to ensure that we reach there,” she said.
Lioness, who is set to hold a show with Magumbo and Chala Chikandiwa at Long Cheng on Thursday, said she was willing to learn from others.
“As a female artist, I am also willing to learn from my male counterparts, who have made it in showbiz.
“It’s never too late for us to exchange notes for the growth of the sector.
“The only challenge with us is that we have other pressing responsibilities, which needs our attention,” she said.
