LIQUID Telecom Zimbabwe managing director and group executive for Southern Africa, Mr Wellington Makamure, has scooped the prestigious 2017 ZNCC Business Leadership award. Mr Makamure got the award at the ZNCC National Congress held on June 28, 2018.

The awards ceremony, which was held in the resort town of Victoria Falls, was graced by various captains of industry and business leaders.

The award is Mr Makamure’s latest feather in his business leadership cap.
He has won two other Business Leadership awards this year alone, at the ZNCC Mashonaland Region Business awards as well as the Zimbabwe Institute of Management Leadership awards.

ZNCC pioneered the Business Leadership award to salute and recognise remarkable business leaders, who through strength, innovation and foresight, induce positive changes in an evolving corporate Zimbabwe.
These business leaders are recognised annually at the awards ceremony.

A notable business leader, Mr Makamure, was recognised for his outstanding leadership at telecoms giant Liquid Telecom Zimbabwe. Under his stewardship, the company has grown to be the biggest independent data, voice and IP provider in Zimbabwe.

The company has also managed to connect major cities and towns on fibre in less than six years, being the first provider to do so in Zimbabwe.

These cities and towns include Harare, Norton, Chegutu, Kadoma, Kwekwe, Gweru, Bulawayo, Victoria Falls, Hwange, Kariba, Chirundu, Karoi, Bindura, Mutare, Chiredzi, Masvingo, Gwanda, Zvishavane, Beitbridge and Plumtree.

Additionally, the company has been at the centre of leading digital transformation in the country by providing organisations with world-class cloud services, which ensure that businesses and individuals have access to cutting edge technology and platforms.

Reacting to his win, Mr Makamure said: “This is a delightful honour to be recognised by ZNCC in this way.
“It is gratifying to provide telecoms solutions to our consumers that make their lives better every day. We are continually working to ensure that everyone everywhere is connected in Zimbabwe.

“It is often said that ‘a leader is only as good as the team he leads’ and I owe it to my Liquid Telecom Zimbabwe team whose contributions made this award possible.

“I am a Christian and I am guided by Christian principles in my leadership roles.”
Outside of work, Mr Makamure is a keen golfer and loves watching football. He’s an ardent Manchester United supporter and loves to travel all over the world.
