In an interview with CAJ News yesterday on the sidelines of the AfricaCom 2012 conference in Cape Town, Liquid Telecom chief executive officer, Noc Rudnic, said the nomination on its own was testament the company was having a positive impact on people’s lives.
“What is of importance to us is the groundwork that is changing people’s lives.
However, we would appreciate to be recognised by the industry (AfricaCom) for our sterling job, but our main focus is to initiate the technology that changes people’s lives throughout Sub Sahara Africa,” said Rudnic.
Liquid Telecom has been spearheading the installation of broadband across the Sadc  region and beyond, mainly Zimbabwe, Zambia, DRC, South Africa, Botswana, Namibia and many parts of both East and West Africa.
Recently, it made some huge strides when they expanded into DRC making their fibre the most extensive in southern Africa.
EcoCash, the mobile money transfer service, has also proven to be a success story since its introduction last year.
At least US$300 million has passed through EcoCash since its inception.
It now has 1,7 million subscribers, a 70 percent increase from last year. — CAJ News.
