THE Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has raised alarm over the shortage of litter bins in the city, saying this is contributing to increased littering and poor waste management in both residential and commercial areas.

Responding to councillors’ concerns during a full council meeting on the issue of waste management, Bulawayo Mayor Councillor  said there was a need to increase the number of available bins.

Clr Coltart appealed to companies to support the city’s efforts to curb littering by donating litter bins.

He further suggested the local production of litter bins, which could subsequently provide employment opportunities for residents, especially the youth.

The Mayor further raised alarm over the growing challenge of plastic waste.
