10.23 – Mr Tendai Dzumbunu speaks on behalf of the Chirinda family. He says Cde Jaison Chirinda was a devoted family man.
“Today we a gather not only to mourn the passing of a family member but to celebrate the death of Cde Chirinda,” he said. “He contributed to the liberation of this country. He sacrificed for the nation’s independence. He was more than a family member but an inspiration to the country.
“The Chirinda family will always be grateful. He was a devoted family man whose love was extended even to the extended family members.”
He said they were grateful that Cde Chirinda has been bestowed with the highest honour of a national hero.

10.23 -Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi addressing the mourners.

10.30 – President Mnangagwa is now addressing the mourners. “Memories of the sacrifice made by our heroes remain in our hearts. Their bravery saved as an inspiration,” said President Mnangagwa

10.43 – Cde Chirinda was a dedicated hero who contributed to the independence of this country. We enjoy the freedom we have because of cadres like Cde Chirinda who were incarcerated during the liberation struggle. Cde Chirinda served his sentence and we were in prison together. He was released in 1980 after independence and joined the police and then the National Railways of Zimbabwe. At the time of his death, he was a farmer.

10.50 – “The Second Republic continues to rebuild and modernise the nation. The sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the West will not deter us from building our motherland,” said President Mnangagwa. He said the Government will continue to implement measures that will ensure economic stability. His Excellency said we must never despise who we are as a people and never look down upon ourselves. He said the life histories of our national heroes should remind us to be firm in defending our country Zimbabwe.

10.58 – The President finishes his speech by paying tribute to the late national hero Cde Chirinda.
11.00 – President Mnangagwa hands over the national flag to a representative of the Chirinda family.



11.10 – Cde Chirinda’s body is now being taken to its final resting place
11.30 – National hero Cde Chirinda has been laid to rest at the national shrine in Harare.
