Live Blog: President to commission ZDF housing project

09.49 – Service Chiefs and Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri have arrived for the commissioning of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces Dzivarasekwa housing project.

Housing delivery is at the core of the Government which is on course to meet a new target of one million houses by 2025 in line with the Second Republic’s goal to ensure every Zimbabwean has decent shelter over their heads.

09.51- President Mnangagwa who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces is also scheduled to handover several vehicles for the uniformed forces.

09.58 – Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri arrives

09.59 – Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Harare Metropolitan Province, Charles Tavengwa has arrived. Among notable dignitaries there is Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary Mr Nick Mangwana. Minister of State for National Security has arrived. Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga has also arrived for the commissioning of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces Dzivarasekwa housing project.

 

10.16 – VP Chiwenga arrives

10.17 –  All set for commissioning of ZDF Dzivaresekwa housing project. All is now set for the commissioning the Zimbabwe Defence Forces Dzivarasekwa Housing Project in Harare by President Mnangagwa.

The President who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces is also scheduled to handover several vehicles. Clad in their military gear members of the ZDF are currently enjoying entertaiment waiting for arrival of their Commander in Chief.

11.08 – Entertainment is still ongoing awaiting the arrival of President Mnangagwa.

 

11.25 – President Mnangagwa who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces has arrived for the commissioning of the ZDF Dzivaresekwa housing project.

11.26 – President Mnangagwa is now inspecting a quarter guard.

 

12.02 – President Mnangagwa is in the briefing. After he will start with a tour of the ZDF houses in Dzivaresekwa, Harare before addressing the delegates.

12.25 – The Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces has finished briefing heads straight to hand over top notch vehicles to the uniformed forces.

12.37- The vehicles are 54 including double and single cabs Ford Rangers

12.45 – The President is now touring the ZDF houses

13.03 –The Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces has unveiled the ZDF Dzivaresekwa housing project

13.10 – President Mnangagwa has concluded his tours and now the singing of the national anthem is underway.

13.28 –Commander Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF), General Philip Valerio Sibanda is now giving welcome remarks. “We appreciate your presence His Excellency and your support we continue to get in terms of condition of service.” Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri now on podium.  She thanked the President for commissioning over 290 houses. Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri says the commissioning of the ZDF housing units fully funded by the Government is a testament of the Second Republic development mantra that Nyika inotongwa, igovakwa nekunamatirwa nevene vayo. She says the project was initiated when President was still the Minister of Defence while VP Chiwengwa was still the ZDF commander around year 2010. Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri says her ministry is now enjoying the fruits of President Mnangagwa’s vision. She also thanked President Mnangagwa for giving them vehicles which she says will help alleviate the serious transport challenges bedevilling the ZDF. She now invites VP Chiwenga to the podium.

13.35 –  VP Chiwenga says it was a great honour to be given the opportunity to invite guest of honour President Mnangagwa .

He says the commissioning of the houses is in line with Vision 2030. VP Chiwenga says the ceremony is not merely about buildings but Government’s commitment to provide affordable, modern and safe houses for all Zimbabweans including the ZDF members. He says Government has put policies and instruments to make the housing delivery policy a reality. VP Chiwenga applauded the donation of vehicles saying it will improve mobility and welfare of staff. He now invites President Mnangagwa to the podium.

13.36 – President Mnangagwa starts on a lighter note saying “Masikati maSadc chairman”. HE says it is a singular honour and priviledge to commission and handover houses constructed under the Dzivaresekwa, Imbizo Barracks Housing projects. HE says the commission is a show of his Government’s commitment to provide modern, affordable and safe houses for both public service officials and the general citizens.

13.46 – He says the handed over houses for occupation should always serve as a symbol and constant reminder of enduring respect and honour that the nation has to the ZDF members. HE says the availability of institutional accommodation is vital. HE says the Dzivaresekwa and Imbizo Housing projects is targeting 8430 housing units having been stalled in the past but now moving swiftly.  President Mnangagwa says training of service personnel in the engineering sector should be scaled up. HE urged stakeholders in housing and building space to play their part in meeting the national housing targets. HE says human settlements must always be accompanied by decent services as water, roads and sewer. HE says the national housing fund considered in the 2025 national budget. HE urged those who will use the houses to mantain them well. “Kana wafura madzihwa usaisa pamadziro zvirinani kuisa paTshirt yako.”  He says they should plant flowers and lawn to keep the ambience of their houses. HE also applauded stakeholders in the construction sector although saying more works is still to be done. He concludes his address by commissioning 202 Dzivaresekwa houses.

14.03 – Mr Nhepera thanked the President for commissioning the houses and handing over the vehicles.  He expressed gratitude to the wise counsel during his speech. Singing of the national anthem to mark the end of the proceedings.
