FORMER FC Platinum coach Lizwe Sweswe is of the view that had Tsholotsho FC benefactor Mandla Manyathela got the much-needed support from fellow businesspeople, the club could have continued to produce quality players.

Early last year the former Premier Soccer League side withdrew its participation in the Zifa Southern Region Division One League due to financial constraints.

“I really enjoyed my time at Tsholotsho FC. It was a club with a great football vision. Had the club’s sponsor (Mandla Manyathela) got all the necessary support from other people in the business community, the club could have continued to produce quality players. I’m proud to say a number of current PSL players had playing stints at Tsholotsho FC and I worked well with them,” said Sweswe who has since assumed the role of head coach at Zifa Central Region Division One side Trukumb Mine FC.

Sweswe started working for Iziqholo ZeZhwane when they were in Division Two.

He later got them promoted into Division One league and the Premier Soccer League.

Tsholotsho spent three seasons in the topflight league before being relegated at the end of the 2017 season, a year in which Sweswe left Iziqholo ZeZhwane to join FC Platinum.

Tsholotsho FC once provided home to former Highlanders duo of MacClive Phiri and Pasca Manhanga, FC Platinum’s William Stima, dreadlocked Skilloh Ncube and imposing Triangle goalkeeper Marion Chang among other talented players.

Asked on how he was feeling with regards to his move to Trukumb Mine FC, the soft spoken Sweswe said: “I am happy to have found a new home. I believe in hard work and I look forward to working with other coaches in a professional manner. My move was not motivated by money but it was influenced by my own set goals.”
