TWO products from New Lobengula boxing club raised Zimbabweas flag high last week when they scooped medals at a prestigious boxing competition in Lubango, Angola.
Speaking to B-Metro Sport an elated Calorine Dube (23) said it was a first time but impressive showing for her at the Zone Four African Confederation Championships.
a?It was my first time to contest in such a big event and I would like to thank my coaches for their patience with me.
Through their efforts I managed to shrug off competition in the welterweight division and scooped a gold medal,a? she said.
Another athlete from the same club Wiseman Tshuma proved his worth with a bronze medal. Tshuma competed in the bantamweight division.
For Tshuma mainstream victory has been elusive since 2013.
a?In my first attempt in 2013 I failed to land any medal and I did not participate in 2014. In 2015 I was invited for a competition in Zambia but I did not win anything too and as such I gave up but my coaches had to motivate me. I bounced back with verve,a? said Tshuma. Some of the participants who represented Zimbabwe were Trade NkomazanaA who competed in the flyweight division, Casper Mkandla contested in lightweight, Zibusiso Nyoni in the lightweight and Brendon Denes contested inA flyweight.
