Local companies target Mozambique market

The event is a multi-sectoral exhibition which will be taking place from November 23 to 25.
ZimTrade operations secretary Ms Caroline Buleya said the event offers local firms an opportunity to identify new markets in that country.

“This provides considerable scope for Zimbabwe to increase its market share in Mozambique since qualifying products enjoy preferential trade benefits such as reduced or no import duties.
“The main objective of this solo exhibition, therefore, is to consolidate, increase and identify new market opportunities in Mozambique.
“The exhibition also seeks to strengthen existing trade relations between the two countries,” she said.

Ms Buleya added that Mozambique was a potential market for the following Zimbabwean products and services, among others: hardware, building and construction materials, agricultural inputs and equipment, furniture, household and electrical products, packaging, processed foods, chemicals and pharmaceuticals.

The global imports of Mozambique last year totalled US$3,5 billion. Zimbabwe’s exports to Mozambique during the same period amounted to US$3,2 million representing less than 0,1 percent of Mozambique’s total import bill.

Zimbabwe and Mozambique are both members of the Sadc Free Trade Area and have a bilateral trade agreement. Beira is Mozambique’s second largest city and is the capital of Sofala Province.
The city acts as a regional gateway for both the central interior portion of Mozambique as well as landlocked countries such as Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi.
