ARTS personality Caroline Nyaka-Chana has urged local upcoming and aspiring artistes to register for the World Monologue Games, a global acting competition that seeks to identify and promote talent.
Registration is currently in progress and closes on July 4.
The virtual showcase allows professional and budding actors from anywhere in the world to participate from the comfort of their homes.
The Zimbabwe-born and Ireland-based artiste has been the head judge of the games in the last three editions.
“Local aspiring artistes should join the global competition, which is now going into season four. The competition gives exposure to budding artistes, as it is abreast with dynamic global trends,” she said.
Competitors from different countries and continents showcase their talents through monologue performances, with the lucky ones securing important roles in major productions.
“This is a platform where global casting directors, producers, scouts and many other industry professionals frequent. There is a higher chance that participants can be noticed, and who knows where it might take them?
“Some may even land Oscar-winning roles,” said Nyaka-Chana.
The games consist of six categories, namely, Tigers (Under 12), Youth (Under 18), Amateurs, Professionals, Sprint and Endurance.
She urged local schools to facilitate unlimited opportunities for learners.
“African countries have been doing quite well in the past three seasons, with more joining the party every year. I was happy to see Ivory Coast and Ghana come on board.
“Entry is open to everyone. Most people are not even aware that there is an early-bird entry fee they should take advantage of,” she said.
Nyaka-Chana believes the country has creatives with potential to conquer the international scene.
“Zimbabwe has brought so much pride and joy to my heart because of the great talent we have. One needs to remember that there are no losers in all we do. We have testimonials of people whose lives have positively changed after participating in the games due to exposure, among other things.”
She has been part of the games since their inception in 2020, at the height of Covid-19-induced lockdowns.
“I actually cannot believe it is already season four of the World Monologue Games. This is now arguably the biggest and best acting competition we have globally. It feels surreal to have been part of this worldwide phenomenon.
“Not only am I humbled, but I am also so excited to have been part of them from the beginning. I feel enthusiastic each time the headquarters announces dates. I look forward to fresh talent and returning participants.”
