ZIMBABWE’S representative at the Old Mutual Zimbabwe F2 ITF Futures, Benjamin Lock, was yesterday knocked out of the tournament when he went down to top seed Tucker Vorster 6-3, 5-7, 3-6 at Harare Sports Club.

Lock took the first set but could not maintain the momentum in the second set when he was leading 4-3 as he went on to lose the set 5-7.

Vorster from South Africa wrapped up the game by winning the third set.

The South African made some good serves that saw him taking important points when it mattered most.

Lock, who went down fighting yesterday, said he was not reading much into the defeat and was happy with the progress he has made so far on his game ahead of Zimbabwe’s tie against Moldova in the Euro/Africa Zone Group II next month in Harare.

“I thought I had a good week of tennis, played well today for a set and a half and put myself in a position to win but it didn’t go my way. I played a loose game at 4-3 serving and let him back in the match and he took advantage of that.

“I will just take some time off and reflect on the week so far and then start training here and getting ready for the final leg. To be honest with you I am actually not focusing on the round of what I want to get to, I just want to keep playing and improving my game. I feel I have done that over these last five weeks of tournaments and I just want to get ready so that I am playing my best tennis in time for the Davis Cup,” said Lock.

Vorster felt it was a tough match.

“It was incredibly a tough match. Benji is a fantastic player and it was a good battle for both of us and I was very lucky today to come out on top.

“He was just too good for me in the first set and he was up a break when I broke him back in the second set.

“There was a bit of momentum switch and from that point on I played a little bit better and I got a little bit luck.

“I am going to have a very tough match tomorrow so what I have got to do now is rest and get ready for tomorrow, it’s going to be a tough one,” said Vorster.
