A LONG-TIME friendship sailed into severe turbulence recently when one of the friends allegedly duped his companion of more than US$50 000.
Aylwin Tinashe Moyo and Takawira Norman Munyavi had been friends since 2008 when they were students at Solusi University.
However, Munyavi allegedly duped Moyo when he was looking for a residential stand to buy.
Munyavi was yesterday remanded in custody until Thursday when he appeared before Harare magistrate Tafadzwa Miti.
Munyavi’s lawyer said he will file his bail application submissions today and Prosecutor Zebedia Bofu said he would also file his response today.
The State said in 2014, Moyo, who was working in Bulawayo, informed Munyavi that he was looking for a residential stand to buy and asked him for assistance.
The State said Munyavi told Moyo that he had a residential stand, which he was in the process of selling in Fidelity Park, Harare for, US$7 000.
Moyo paid in instalments until 2015.
Moyo then asked for the title deeds of the stand but Munyavi told him that he was facing challenges in transferring the property since he had acquired it from the Air Force of Zimbabwe.
The court heard that Munyavi offered Moyo another stand in Gletwin Park.
He instructed Moyo to top up the money as the new stand was going for US$60 000.
The court heard that Moyo paid the money in instalments and also gave him a Mercedes Benz.
Everything amounted to US$58 450.
Moyo then came to Harare in 2020, to take ownership of the stand, and found out that his friend had duped him, as it belonged to someone else. Moyo reported the matter to the police leading to Munyavi’s arrest.
