THE Ministry of Local Government and Housing yesterday replied to a story in the Business Herald.
The story referred to a claim by Mr Isaac Samuriwo, Chairman of Marimba Park Residents Association that he had received no reply from the Ministry on representations over the Marimba Park freehold housing scheme.
A spokesman for the Ministry said: “The true facts are that a telephone request was made by Dr Samuriwo on November 21 for an interview with the Minister.
“No letter was at any time received by the Ministry from the residents’ association. On November 23 the Minister of Local Government and Housing met Dr Samuriwo and four other representatives of the Marimba Park Resident’s Association and the position with regard to the Home Partner’s scheme was fully explained.
“The Ministry had reservations about the scheme and had previously called for plans of the house and other details of development proposals. As a result of a study of the papers the city council was informed that the scheme would have to be changed radically in certain respects.
“First the quality of the housing would have to be improved and, second, that part of the scheme closest to the existing Marimba Park Development would be used for higher quality housing. Those facts were communicated to the residents’ association at the meeting on November 23 and subsequently fully accepted by the developers.”
