THEY say life begins at 40, and for songstress Dorothy Chipo (born Dorothy Chipo Madamba), this adage rang true as she sealed her love story by tying the knot with her longtime friend and now husband, Benjamin Kofi Afagbegee, in a colourful wedding ceremony held this past weekend.

The union crowned a friendship that spanned more than a decade before blossoming into romance. Speaking on their journey, Dorothy Chipo revealed that the couple first met 12 years ago at a workshop in Masvingo and remained genuine friends over the years.
“We met at a workshop in Masvingo 12 years ago. We have been real, genuine friends until December last year when our relationship started,” she said.

She added that much of their courtship unfolded remotely, with the couple only meeting in person a week before their wedding.
“We had this relationship remotely and met seven days before the wedding in person. Both of us were single, focused on our work and serving in the church and our families as firstborns, and we decided to take this step,” said Dorothy Chipo.
Dorothy Chipo, a self-taught singer, songwriter, recording artiste and worship leader, is celebrated for leading audiences into transformative experiences through song. She began her professional music journey in 2012 with acclaimed gospel outfit Zimpraise, contributing to the Sungano Live DVD, before launching her solo career in 2013 with the release of her debut single, Jesu Wezvishamiso. – Follow on X: @mthabisi_mthire
