Love talk turns to bloodshed

Fairness Moyana

WHAT do you get when you mix booze, jealousy, and side-chick drama?

A bloody love triangle that left one man in stitches and the other sentenced to 420 hours of hard labour!

Alec Moyo (55) from Bumputu Village in Chief Pashu’s area of Binga went from wise uncle to knife-wielding maniac in one drunken night, all because of a love chat gone horribly wrong.

It all kicked off after a drinking spree at Ndimuchenga Business Centre on 12 March 2025, where Moyo and his long-time pal Seven Mudenda (48) shared beers, banter and, big mistake, relationship advice.

As they staggered home, Mudenda ruffled feathers. He asked Moyo about rumours that he was romantically tangled with Lucia Mudimba, a woman Mudenda also had eyes for. Moyo, trying to be mature, told him to ditch Lucia and focus on Beauty Nyoni, the mother of his child.

They parted ways, but the night was far from over.

Barely an hour later, Moyo stormed back to Mudenda’s homestead. No longer a concerned friend, he had turned into a man on a mission. Mudenda’s elderly mother was first to meet the surprise visitor who claimed he just wanted to talk.

Big lie.

When Mudenda stepped outside, he found Moyo sitting suspiciously calm. But before he could say a word, Moyo exploded in fury, shouting that Mudenda had crossed the line.

Then out came the knife.

Moyo stabbed Mudenda three times, once in the right thigh, once in the knee, and once in the left thigh, leaving him drenched in blood. Mudenda collapsed, and his family rushed him to seek medical help. The matter was quickly reported to Kamativi Police Station, and Moyo was arrested.

Appearing before Provincial Magistrate Ms Fungai Dzimiri, Moyo pleaded guilty and blamed the attack on drunken emotions and bruised pride.

Ms Dzimiri gave him 18 months in prison, suspended six months, and converted the remaining 12 months into 420 hours of community service to be completed within 14 weeks.

Miss Matsiliso Tlou appeared for the State.

Now, the once-friendly beer buddies are the talk of Binga, with villagers whispering about the blood that spilled over a love triangle. One lesson stands out: when it comes to mjolo, mind your words and your knife.
