Lower Gweru man found dead near his house

Police in Lower Gweru are probing the death of a man whose body was discovered on the roadside with visible bruises.

Police spokesperson for Midlands province Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said investigations were ongoing.

“Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a case of murder in which a 57-year-old man was found dead near Dhimbamihwa Business Centre, Lower Gwelo on Sunday at about 6 am,”

he said. “The deceased was identified as Maxwell Giyane of Veti Village under Chief Sogwala.”

Insp Mahoko said the previous day, Giyane was drinking beer with other patrons at Giyani General Dealer bottle store.

He said at about 8 pm all other patrons left the store leaving Giyane drinking beer alone.

“At around 9 pm the shop attendant Natasha Giyane (27) of Pakama Village, Chief Sogwala asked Maxwell Giyane to leave the shop as it was time for closing,” said Insp Mahoko.

“He complied and left the shop heading to his homestead which is about 600 metres from the Business Centre.”

He said the following morning at about 6 am Giyane was found dead in an open space that leads to his homestead.

“During Police scene attendance the body was discovered to have bruises all over,” said Insp Mahoko.

“We are appealing to anyone with information on what might have transpired that led to the death of Giyane to approach any police station.”
