The Lowveld Agricultural Show roars into life today, with thousands expected to attend this year’s edition.
Lowveld Agriculture Show Society spokesperson, Mr Grahame Murindagomo, yesterday said this year’s edition was “a must attend” event which has brought a platform for unlocking business avenues for players in various sectors of the economy.
He said the show, which will run under the theme, “Revived, Empowered, Committed,” was set to draw thousands of people from across the Lowveld, as they exhibit, learn and share measures to upgrade agricultural production in the area.
“Many exhibitors have paid up as confirmation of their participation at the show and we hope by the end of the day (yesterday) we would have established the exact number of exhibitors participating,” said Mr Murindagomo in an interview yesterday.
He said people attending the show should expect arena displays from the Zimbabwe National Army, while the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority would also participate and exhibit displays with their sniffer dogs.
“We have a lot of fun, educative and informative displays from our exhibitors,” he said. “Remember, we are just recovering from a drought and most farmers who failed to showcase last year will be joining us this year.”
The show starts with a Traders’ Day, which is also open to the public.
“On Friday, our team of adjudicators will help us judge the best exhibitors, while a business dinner and a musical gala have been lined up for the evening,” he said.
The official opening is set for Saturday and will be graced by the Chiredzi District Administrator.
LASC chairman Mr Willy Mpofu said they were impressed by the state of preparedness portrayed by exhibitors.
“Last year, we had 21 exhibitors, but this year the number has increased,” he said. “We hope more will pitch up before the start of the event.”
The show runs from today to Saturday.
