Lowveld Community launches awards

NOMINATIONS for the inaugural Lowveld Community development Awards 2016 are now open.
The awards are the brainchild of the Lowveld Community Development Trust, a non-profit making social venture actively involved in community empowerment and transformation.
The awards were borne out of an extensive study, which indicated that there is need to appreciate and honour selfless individuals and socially responsible corporates for their efforts in the community development for the Lowveld region.
The community awards are designed to honour the hard-working and innovative individuals and organisations from across the country whose vision and leadership transform the Lowveld community into a good place to live, do business, work and raise families.
The event will assemble individuals, general public and private corporations, Government departments and non-governmental organisations for a prestigious awards ceremony to be held in Chiredzi.
The awards will cover more than 10 categories so that all sectors of the economy and society are recognised such as arts and culture, media, business, leadership, farming, sports, environment, humanitarian, educational, hospitality, health, science and technology, and community development.
More than 30 personalities and corporates will receive awards for their exceptional contribution to the community.
The nomination process started on January 4 2016 and will run until March 30 2016 and any person above the age of 10 years can be nominated.
The process will actively use the social media such as Facebook and Twitter for the voting process where an independent judging panel representing key stakeholders and the local community will adjudicate and the judges’ decision will be final.
An Awards presentation dinner will be held in Chiredzi where winners will receive their Awards at a colourful ceremony.
Speaking after the launch of the awards in Chiredzi, last week, LCDT spokesperson Ms Sonia Chipanga said: “By naming a person or organisation you would make the world of difference to their confidence through a nomination and inspire them to continue their good work. It gives us great pleasure to reward people and corporates for their contribution to the development of the Lowveld region in particular and Zimbabwe in general.”
She called upon the corporate world and individuals to embrace the initiative so that the awards can be a stepping stone towards building vibrant communities through building public and private partnerships.
