Lucas, Klopp bromance

LIVERPOOL. — Egged on by an enraptured Anfield crowd shouting “shooooooooot”, Lucas Leiva just couldn’t resist trying his luck. He may have been 30 yards from goal but the Brazilian, encouraged by the fact Liverpool were leading rivals Everton by four goals, fancied his chances on Wednesday night. Alas, there was to be no glorious ending. Lucas is not a man used to shooting too often and, with a crushing predictability, his effort was badly scuffed and drifted harmlessly wide.

But the reaction of his manager Jurgen Klopp on the bench was absolutely priceless. The German and his coaching staff dissolved into uncontrollable fits of giggles at the woefully inadequate effort.

Lucas looked a little sheepish at first, but then saw the funny side, allowing himself a wry smile as the crowd cheered ironically. Klopp’s hysterical reaction was, of course, instantly crunched down into a five second clip that went viral on social media.

It was just the latest example of the blossoming bromance between the German manager and the Brazilian midfielder. It’s obvious that Klopp has a wonderful rapport with most of his players – training sessions and post-match celebrations are alive with jokes and laughter, and it’s had a positive effect on results.

When the German arrived at Anfield, one of his first acts was to restore Lucas into the midfield. His predecessor, Brendan Rodgers, had come close to selling him.

The pair struck up an instant friendship. Klopp arrived during the international break in October and just nine players were involved in his first training session, including the midfielder. — Mailonline.
