FORMER Zanu-PF activist, Mr Acie Lumumba, may soon face charges of undermining the President as defined in section 33 (2) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act after he insulted President Mugabe using unprintable words.
He uttered the words while launching his party called Viva Zimbabwe in Harare yesterday.
Mr Lumumba pronounced himself as chairman of the party adding that Viva Zimbabwe was aimed at bringing change in Zimbabwe.
“Mr Mugabe, I guess you haven’t been really insulted,” said Mr Lumumba. “You’re now used to being insulted by protesters. You’re used to being insulted by vendors. You’re used to being insulted in the hallways. You’ve never seen Zimbabweans really angry. So, here is the red line. Mr President Robert Gabriel Mugabe f**k you.”
Mr Lumumba claimed that President Mugabe was responsible for the total collapse of the economy.
He said Zanu-PF was responsible for gross mismanagement of funds in Government coffers. “Where is the $15 billion that just went missing? Right now (Patrick) Chinamasa is looking towards trying to clear a debt of $11 billion in a space of 25 years,” he said.
Mr Lumumba, who addressed a handful of supporters, said Zimbabwe needed new blood to effectively run the country.
He said although he was leader of Viva Zimbabwe, he was not going to contest the 2018 Presidential elections.
Mr Lumumba said he would support any candidate he considered to be appropriate for the post. However, a Harare based political analyst dismissed Mr Lumumba as an attention seeker saying the authorities should ignore him.
“Remember, he is the same guy who once claimed that he had sensitive information implicating Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Minister Patrick Zhuwao but he failed to produce it,” said the source.
“He is seeking relevance, and I think it will be a waste of time and resources for the authorities to pursue such a matter coming from someone who seems to have lost his conscience.”
Before he left Zanu-PF, Mr Lumumba was chairman of a steering committee on the Zimbabwe Youth Empowerment Strategy for Investment.
He was fired for misappropriating funds meant for the Zimbabwe Youth Council.
