AS the curtain came down on the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) yesterday, the lights in Bulawayo are far from dimming.
Luna Park, the city’s seasonal amusement hub is keeping the spirit of celebration alive as it remains open to both Bulawayo residents and visitors throughout the school holidays until 12 May.
Having opened its gates on 28 February, Luna Park has already drawn crowds with its vibrant atmosphere and wide range of attractions.

But now, its message is shifting as this is no longer just a complementary experience to ZITF but a standalone destination for families looking to unwind, reconnect and create lasting memories.
Set against a backdrop of flashing rides and laughter, the park continues to offer an escape from the routine of everyday life.
Children, teenagers and adults alike will continue to enjoy rides with excitement, gather around high-energy attractions and take in the simple joy of shared moments.
Luna Park caters for all age groups, blending classic amusement rides with newer experiences such as virtual reality, while vendors provide familiar treats that complete the carnival atmosphere.

Luna Park director Mr Witness Chihota, said the amusement park goes beyond rides as it offers space for people to reconnect.
“It’s about giving people a space to reconnect, to laugh and to enjoy time as families. Even though ZITF has ended, the experience here continues. We want people to know that the fun doesn’t stop when ZITF ends,” he said.
“We are still open for the rest of the school holidays until 12 May. Families can continue to come through, relax and enjoy themselves.”
Mr Chihota believes that a sense of belonging is what makes Luna Park an ideal place for entertainment.
“We want Bulawayo to feel alive. We want families, friends and visitors to know there is a place for them here, a place to unwind and create memories,” he said.
“Luna Park’s presence in the city is not a one-off event. We will be back again next year during the same season.”
The park, now located at the North End Grounds at the corner of JMN Nkomo Street and Masotsha Ndlovu Avenue, offers a more spacious and accessible environment for visitors.
Operating daily from 9am, the entrance remains free with individual rides costing US$2. Payments are also accepted in local currency.
For many residents, Luna Park has become more than just a place of entertainment. It is a space for reconnection.
“I bring my children here during the weekend and you can just see the difference. They are happy and that makes everything worth it,” said Mrs Tanya Moyo.
Another parent, Mr Nleya, commended the park’s improvements and the inclusion of modern attractions.
“This time, they brought high-quality jumping castles and virtual reality, which my older son loves so much,” he said.
The blend of nostalgia and innovation appears to be striking the right chord, drawing families back to a shared experience that feels both familiar and refreshed.
Luna Park is fast becoming a central gathering point for those seeking relaxation and enjoyment in a lively yet welcoming setting.
