Nick Welch’s resistance comes to an end at the stroke of lunch.

Welch was caught for 27 runs off 68 balls. He enjoyed a 36-run fourth wicket partnership with Craig Ervine as Zimbabwe struggled with the bat in the first hour of play on day one.

Matt Henry has stood out with the ball for New Zealand, getting pace early on in the morning and making the most of it. He has three wickets in 7.2 overs.

Sikandar Raza will join the skipper Craig Ervine in the middle after lunch.
