Oscar award winner, Lupita Nyongo is set to star in a movie to be directed by South African movie director James Makalao and Zimbabwean filmmaker Edmore Ndlovu.
The movie dubbed “Praise Start” which is about a young lady who goes to Zimbabwe for the Victoria Falls expedition will have some parts shot in Zimbabwe later this year. It will feature some local actors.
Lupita’s location researcher Moses Makina who is in the country for a four day stay said he was happy to work with Zimbabwean filmmaker.
“It is my first time to be here and the people are very welcome. We are here for the movie, looking for location and if possible to scout some actors, he said.
Makina said they would hold auditions today at Rainbow Cinemas begining at 10am. He encouraged popular and upcoming actors to come for the auditions and have an opportunity to feature in the upcoming production.
“The audition is open to everyone but we want someone with a true African accent. We plan to have some of the scenes shot here in Zimbabwe and we spotted the location but now we want one or two actors from Zimbabwe if they meet the demands.
“The invitation is not limited to renowned actors but those who have passion for acting can come at the cinemas around 10am tomorrow (today),” he said.
He said Zimbabwe has talent and people should grab the precious opportunity.
“I must say what I have seen so far is amazing. On Sunday I went to Book Café and was impressed by the talent displayed there,” he said.
Zimbabwe filmmaker Ndlovu expressed joy over the development.
“Last week I was in South Africa and met the team for the production. I am happy that I was tasked to write the Zimbabwean script part and this is a dream come true for me,” he said.
Ndlovu of the Souls of Emmanuel fame said he will help today in scouting talent.
“I am one of the panelists and also happy that will be flying with the team on Thursday to Nigeria to meet some of the cast.
“Working with Lupita is a dream come true and we hope she will learn some of the Shona lines well.
After auditions we will have a photo session with the cast but strictly no personal gadgets for security reasons,” said Ndlovu.
The movie has a budget of $300 000.
