NDEBELE dancehall king Ma9Nine will on Saturday, August 15, mark a new chapter in his musical career with the release of his maiden album, Big Ndebele.
The album comes on the heels of the dancehall star’s establishment of Wazin Family Studios in Magwegwe North, a recording facility aimed at bridging the gap between artistes in Matabeleland and the country’s mainstream music industry by bringing acclaimed producers from across the country.
The album’s introductory track is the Ndebele version of Amagetsi, a tribute to the late musician Souljah Love, who remains an inspiration to many emerging artistes in the Zimdancehall genre.
Other tracks on the 10-track album are Everything Nice, Jericho, Cresenzisa, Malume, Morning Class, Wonku Muntue Mayela, Kholeka, Dem Dead and Dai Ukafa, featuring Uncle Slim.
The Uwindi Womtshova hitmaker said the album serves as a full introduction to his artistry, which he is now taking full ownership of.
“This album is to show people who I am in the music industry, delivering a different Ndebele flavour in the music industry in Zimbabwe and to show the talent that I have.
“I produced all the 10 tracks as I felt that this album should have a signature feel of the Wazin brand.
“I hope my fans and followers will relate to most of the songs,” said Ma9Nine.
As part of his broader vision to nurture talent and create opportunities for up-and-coming artistes from the region through his studio, Ma9Nine has also launched a challenge under the banner “Uluju Riddim”.
“The main purpose of the riddim is to expose talent in Matabeleland and to uplift the music industry by giving up-and-coming and unknown artistes a chance to mark their arrival.
“A lot of talent goes to waste because of lack of avenues where people can make their breakthrough. I want to be that handle that opens doors for many great artistes,” said Ma9Nine. – Follow on X: @mthabisi_mthire
