Macheka elected new HAZ president

Tamuka Macheka has been elected president of the Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe (HAZ) . He was elected at the association’s congress in Victoria Falls last week. Macheka is the general manager of Golden Peacock Hotel in Mutare.He takes over from Tich Hwingwiri who has been at the helm of the association for the past three terms. Hwingwiri now becomes the vice-president of the Zimbabwe Council of Tourism.

The chief executive officer of Inns of Zimbabwe Adam Gordons was elected first vice-president while George Manyumwa was elected the second vice-president. Manyumwa is the operations director at the Rainbow Tourism Group (RTG).

Meanwhile, Farai Chimba, the deputy managing director at Victoria Falls Hotel, won the hospitality award of the year during the HAZ awards dinner held in Victoria Falls at the end of its congress.

Zimbabwe Tourism Authority chief executive Karikoga Kaseke won the special HAZ award for his contributions to the growth of the tourism sector. African Sun executive chef Leonard Moyo won the best chef award.

The congress which was running under the theme, “Putting people first” ended on a high note with the government committing to assist with $200 million loan facility for recapitalisation projects.
