SUNGURA maestro Alick Macheso and his Orchestra Mberikwazvo band return to Bulawayo for a show at the Amphitheatre on Friday. The Madawu hit-maker, who has clearly been unfazed by his battered image by consistently staging top-notch performances, will not share the stage with anyone as he wants to bond with his Bulawayo fans. “Macheso hasn’t been in Bulawayo for some time and has dedicated this show to his fans there. He and his band will be performing alone as we want to make up for all the lost time and leave fans satisfied,” said his manager, William Tsandukwa.
He added that they had stopped staging shows in Bulawayo not because they were shunning revellers, but because their venue, the Amphitheatre, had been fully booked.
“We were told that the venue we prefer performing at in Bulawayo because of its convenience, the Amphitheatre, was fully booked so we ended up going to perform at places like Gweru and Hwange,” Tsandukwa said.
Tickets have been pegged at $5 and will only be available on the day of the show.
Macheso last performed in the city in May this year. Though his fan base has dwindled somewhat, he has tried not to allow his social troubles deter his performances.
