Some of the new songs that were fans’ favourites include Nhava Isina Mhepo, Mwari Ndibatsireiwo, where he appeals for divine intervention from God.
The fans were entertained by Progress Chipfumo from 8pm to midnight. Chipfumo and his group however, had to endure booing from revellers who felt that they had outlived their time on stage.
Not taking anything away from him, the dreadlocked artiste gave a good account of himself as he played his oldies that include the popular Baba Vevana. However, it was Macheso who gave fans entertainment from the top drawer.
Complemented by Majuice’s nimble-footedness on the dance floor, the Orchestra Mberikwazvo outfit had a memorable show.
The king himself looked as energetic as ever, starting with his trade mark greeting of giving praise to the Almighty. He churned songs that include Charakupa, Amai Varubi, Mundikumbuke and MaDube Wangu. Some of fans had come from as far as Chiredzi, Mvuma, Birchenough Bridge, Zvishavane and Mwenezi.
His dancing entourage was in a jubilant mood, but the man who stole the show is Macheso himself who is never short of new guitar playing antics. The Chitungwiza-based artiste was a marvel to watch because of his excellent guitar-playing artistry, as he used his chin, back and sometimes elbow to play the bass guitar, thereby sending fans into a frenzy.
Macheso proved to be in a class of his own.
As if reading the fan’s frustration because of his delay to appear on stage, he staged one of the best gigs that left the fans who packed the night spot satisfied.
