SUPERSTAR Alick Macheso and Freeman are set to headline the Creative Reproductive Health Arts Festival (CRAFT) at Harare Gardens this Saturday.
Students And Youth Working On Reproductive Health Action Team (SAYWHAT) is behind the festival.
CRAFT programmes manager, Leo Munyonho, confirmed Macheso and Freeman’s presence at the event.
“Macheso and Freeman will be available at the event.
“There will be competitions where winners in the music category will be able to record their music from our own studio.
“Besides Macheso and Freeman, other artists set to perform at the event include Anita Jackson, Enzo Ishall, Gringo Junior, G-Mbare, Bravo and Ally D,” Munyonho said.
The event coordinator said young people will have a chance to interact with service providers who will be present on the day.
“There will be lot of activities, including free counselling and also access to free sexual reproductive health care, so I encourage all young people to come, learn and share ideas,” he said.
He said the event will be marked with a talent show, which is aimed at helping in fighting gender-based violence, drug abuse and also promoting sexual reproductive health.
“We came up with a talent show that is meant to identify talent from young people across the country.
“So, we introduced the Chase competition, the Chase referring to chasing the dream.
“As the SAYWHAT Team, we went around the provinces identifying young people in different arts categories and we focused on four categories – poetry, public speaking, music and drama,” said Munyonho.
He added that the organisation had to adapt to modern ways of reaching young people with information of behavioural change.
“It was a guided competition where competitors were not just singing, or acting, but we gave them themes either to promote health or to denounce gender based violence and drugs.
“We are happy to announce that young girls also participated in the competition,” he said.
The event will see 36 provincial winners fighting for honours at Harare Gardens.
