The veteran musician left revellers spellbound, as he dished out some of his hits, playing to an appreciative crowd who braved a windy night to come and witness his performance.
The show saw the king of sungura perform tracks from his much anticipated upcoming album which is yet to be titled. The show was also witness to the return of Orchestra Mberikwazo band members Elton Muropa and Noel Nyazanda who were missing from Macheso’s last performance in Bulawayo.
Macheso was ably supported by Progress Chipfumo who also put up a scintillating display, before. Chipfumo delivered a flawless performance that warmed up the crowd before the show’s main act, and had the enthusiastic crowd singing along many of his songs.
His performance was however, somewhat upstaged by the antics of one female reveller who, in what seemed like a drunken stupor, started dancing without her trousers, much to the delight of many in the crowd.
Next was Orchestra Mberikwazo displaying their skills on various musical instruments and wowing the crowd with their thrilling dance moves.
Extra Basso made his appearance at around midnight to wild cheers from an expectant crowd. Macheso did not disappoint and immediately got the crowd going with some of his chart topping hits. Among the songs that he performed were, Charakupa, Shediah, Madhawu, Tafadzwa, Chara Chimwe and Amai Varubhi which were performed to lung busting cheers from the crowd.
Macheso lived up to his reputation, as an entertainer par excellence, thrilling the crowd with his legendary guitar skills while also entertaining them with his unique dance moves. He did three variations of his now famous Borrowdale dance.
Macheso’s show was highly interactive, as he engaged freely with the crowd and while also taking their song requests. One overzealous female reveller jumped on stage, but instead of being chased away, was given space to showcase her skills by the sungura maestro.
The show left revellers convinced that they had got their money’s worth, with many commending Macheso for putting up a memorable show.
One female reveller who spoke to Chronicle Entertainment on condition of anonymity, praised Macheso for his ability to interact freely with the crowd.
“I found his performance very refreshing and engaging. He did not just perform his songs, but made us also feel part of the performance,” she said
