FRIDAY the 13th turned into a beautiful tale for superstar Alick Macheso as he cemented his status as the King of Sungura at the unveiling of his album “Kupa Kuturika.”

Thousands of his fans flocked to Alex Sports Club for the colourful event despite the chilly conditions on Friday night.

However, Macheso kept his fans in suspense by only performing one song ‘Zvichada Hama’ off the new six-track album.

His camp has decided to release the songs off the album in parts series with only ‘Zvichada Hama’ and ‘Kuverengera’ now available on online platforms.

The remaining four songs – ‘Murangarire’, ‘Kunditaya’, ‘Hunhu Hwakashata’ and ‘Undiregererewo’ will be released in similar fashion.

In ‘Zvichada Hama’, the superstar plays the proverbial prophet and says there will always be a time when everyone will need his or her family support in life.

The superstar had been accused of living on past glory while being average in his recent albums.

However, this new album has already seen many of his fans pushing the “Macheso Ndiye Anorira” line.

Macheso is adamant he still has what it takes to remain at the top.

“Pa album iri takaterera imi varungu vedu, takaita zvamanga muchikumbira pamakore ese apfuura.

“Takabika mutakunanzva, tinotenda nerutsigiro rwenyu,” said Macheso before introducing ‘Zvichada Hama’.

The musician also took his fans down memory lane performing songs like ‘Sarah’, ‘Tererai’ and ‘Baba naMai,’ among others.

It was also a jam-packed launch as Macheso’s sons – Tatenda and Esau – wowed fans with their own compositions and their father’s songs.

Enzo Ishall, Saintfleow, Feli Nandi and Andy Muridzo also took turns to perform during the event.

On her set, Feli Nandi performed a rendition of Macheso’s ‘Charakupa’ song.

Macheso also performed a duet with Peter Moyo.

It was widely considered a highlight of the launch as the two synced well in rhythm and voice.

Through his friends, partners and die-hard fans Macheso’s album fetched close to US$20 000, plus five beasts.

Government officials, including the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, Tino Machakaire, and Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture Deputy Minister Emily Jesaya attended the launch.

Deputy Minister Jesaya pledged Government’s full support towards the local arts sector urging legends like Macheso to sharpen their arrows and continue aiming higher.

Environment, Climate and Wildlife Deputy Minister John Paradza, Mabvuku legislator Scott Sakupwanya and businessman Brighton Ushendibaba also graced the event.
